Celebrating Languages, Culture and Diversity in School

Embracing India’s Linguistic and Cultural Diversity

CBSE schools across India have embraced multilingualism and cultural diversity as integral components of holistic education. The Central Board of Secondary Education, through various initiatives aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, actively promotes an environment where linguistic and cultural plurality is not merely acknowledged but celebrated.

Learning Languages Beyond the Classroom

One of the flagship initiatives is the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp, launched in May 2025. The programme introduces students to Indian languages other than those they study in school. Through a 28-hour capsule course, students participate in basic greetings, role-plays, vocabulary-building exercises and cultural appreciation activities.

The programme aims to make language learning enjoyable while fostering mutual respect, cultural understanding and national integration among young learners.

Celebrating India’s Linguistic Symphony

Bhasha Sangam, an initiative under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, provides students with multilingual exposure to India’s 22 scheduled languages. Schools conduct daily activities in which students deliver speeches using simple sentences in different Indian languages during morning assemblies.

Honouring the Mother Tongue

CBSE schools also observe International Mother Language Day through a variety of engaging programmes. Multilingual prayer services, folk dances, skits, elocution contests and other cultural activities provide students with opportunities to celebrate their native languages.

These observances reinforce the importance of preserving one's mother tongue while encouraging students to respect and appreciate the languages spoken by others.

Celebrating Diversity at Birla High School - Mukundapur

At Birla High School Mukundapur, India's linguistic and cultural diversity is embraced through vibrant celebrations involving students and faculty alike. These occasions provide a meaningful platform for students to connect with India's rich literary and cultural traditions.

On Hindi Diwas, students honour the Hindi language through poetry, songs and literary tributes. On Rabindra Jayanti, the school resonates with Rabindra Sangeet and recitations celebrating Tagore's timeless legacy.

Together, these observances cultivate cultural pride, linguistic appreciation and a sense of unity among students.
